The challenges for town centres are well documented, from rapidly changing retail models to a shift in consumer behaviour and expectations, not least the rapid rise of online shopping thanks to smartphone technology. In response, town centres around the country and in south west London are having to up their game, by enhancing their offer and profile. Only by competing effectively as a cohesive centre will Putney thrive in this increasingly competitive environment.
Importantly, a BID will put businesses at the heart of this approach, with business people deciding on what needs to be done to enhance the trading environment and how.
The Town Centre Partnership, chaired by Gary Crook, has carried out a wide range of research amongst potential BID zone businesses to define what might be needed and to see if there is indeed an appetite for BID in Putney.
